Everyone has their soft spot when it comes to indulgent splurges. For some, it is shoes. For others, it may be designer jeans. Maybe it is purses. Or maybe it is electronic gadgets. Whatever our shopping soft spots may be, we have one too many yet we love, love, and love each and every one.

Asian Americans are often a forgetten ethnicity, particularly in the fashion world. We can find Asian roots in almost all aspects of American society - bringing changes to runway trends, traditional cuisine, corporate culture, and even social structure. Yet the only Asian woman role models I find in today's media are the Lucy Lius and Trisha Takanawas - in other words very limited and stereotypical.

I love fashion. I also love art. Combining the two is simply indescribable visual ecstasy. The influences of art on fashion, and fashion on art. Art movements dating back to the Renaissance that are assimmilated into fashion. For an in-depth read, check out Art and Fashion by Dr. Alice Mackrell. I am not much of a beauty queen. I prefer minimal, sheer make-up with the occasional dramatic liner. But there are two products I live by and worship religiously:

Paris. Milan. London. New York - acclaimed fashion capitals of the world and breeding grounds for revolutionary designs, cuts and patterns. California, on the otherhand, is branded and unfashionably cursed with the following of Abercrombie and Hollister. Yet over the past decade, Los Angeles has managed to make a name for itself, springing designers like Trina Turk and Rami Kashou - something that cannot be said about my San Francisco.
